Blog Post by Clare Ross: INBA Figure Superstar
If you had asked me one year ago if I was prepared to wear one brand of gym clothing only I would have said “no [insert swear word here] way”. I have always been the one in the change room at Rebel Sport with 10 pairs of pants. Pants that struggled to fit my thighs and didn’t give me a lumpy muffin top look. Along with the pants were a few tops that I would be despairing over when it came to fitting in my lats.
After competing in the 2010 Bendigo Country Classic I received an Activewear Online bag with a voucher for some gym clothes. I contacted Jill and very quickly received my clothes in the mail. I was amazed to receive what I would have called gym clothes for women! I remember training in these clothes and being amazed about how good it felt.
It now seems logical that if you are training in clothes that make you feel good, you will feel good training! We all know a happy, relaxed mind leads to a great training session. For me there a few things that make me feel good in gym clothes.
Firstly the fit matters to me. This is a tricky thing as my size goes up and down like a yo-yo. It is nice to have clothes that somewhat moves up and down with you. It is also a lot cheaper J
I also like clothes that show off the body part I am training. You might think this is obvious but I used to frequently train shoulders in a tee-shirt! I like looking at my body parts when training and yes, it motivates me!
I like to feel free in my clothes. I am not a high heel, tight jean girl and I feel the same about my gym clothes. I dislike dragging tops down after lat pull downs or pulling pants up or out after squats. I always feel constricted in heavy, tight clothes and often find myself pulling the clothes away from my body.
So, one year has passed whilst being sponsored by Activewear and I could not be happier with the Better Bodies range from them. Like my favourite perfume, I feel like I have found my favourite gym clothes brand. These clothes are part of why I feel so good whilst training. When I think about how many mirrors are in the gym and how many times we are forced to look at ourselves whilst there, why wouldn’t you seek out clothes that make you feel good to train well?
Some of my very favourite things from Activewear are:
Better Bodies Cherry Hill Short Top (aka a crop top)
Better Bodies Short Top’s are gentle. They are soft, they hold you in all the right places and I have never found a red mark after wearing them! The metal ring detail is very cute and the straps and seams are flat. It really doesn’t look like you are wearing one unless you are like me and like to show it off.
I love this top enough to have it in 3 colours. When someone compliments me on the top I always get them to feel it, unless of course, it’s the creepy guy at the gym! It’s really difficult to convey how light these tops are.
I always wear these tops on shoulder or back day. They are designed to make your shoulders and back really look good. The back straps always fit under the Short tops straps perfectly so when you train your back you can actually see your back and not a sea of straps!
I have done a lot of cardio in these tops and have never looked like I need to be wrung out. They are the perfect top for Summer cardio.
After Christmas and any kind of holiday these are my go- to tops. The soft box T-back is so forgiving that you can wear it with your seasonal muffin top or your imaginary fat day. The fit is a little longer, perfect for covering up. They are, as the name suggests, very soft.
I like the hard look of them and the print on the front; they look like you are there to train and train hard!
Whilst these tops don’t give away jiggles, they are a t-back and they do your shoulders and back all the favours in the world. Would it surprise you if I had these also in 3 colours?
If you have ever read one of my blogs you would know one of my greatest pleasures in life is the shower after training followed by the putting on of soft tracksuit pants!
When I think about it, these are the most used clothes I own. These pants make your butt look so much smaller whilst fitting in bigger thighs. The waist is soft and wide and very easy to wear, I have to remind myself these are not pyjamas. Needless to say I need these in 3 colours!
After a year of being sponsored by Activewear Online and wearing these wonderful clothes you will never see me training in anything else. I truly believe these are the perfect training clothes for women in the gym and of course me! We work so hard on our physiques I believe, it is nice to wear clothes that are designed for women who train, have lats, and detailed backs. I can’t thank Activewear enough for giving all this support this year and giving me the opportunity to stay involved in this sport I love so much.
