Blog Post by Chris Jenkins: IFBB State and National title holder. Well here I am, 19 weeks and out from my comp and I’ve cleaned up my diet… Which for me means no more drive thru at midnight and the sushi is out!!! But, as I begin my diet, I’m gonna tell you (or remind some you) of all the exciting things that you have to look forward to as the comp draws closer!!! People will get annoying! This is pretty self explanatory… and it goes with the territory of low calories!!! You’re gonna get constant questions about why and what you’re eating, and if that’s not enough you’re probably gonna have to listen to some terribly built runt tell you how it’s not living to eat like this !!! Another favourite is the people who want to ask you every day, how long to go… it might sound rude, but when you’re tired and hungry and you get asked the same question over and over it starts to send a poor hungry soul a bit mad … it’s even better when you’re on the treadmill (or cardio equipment of choice) that every single person who walks past, stops to ask you how you’re feeling… I know it’s great that people care to ask, but geez, I can only tell people I feel like death so many times before you either want shoot them or yourself!! Significant others too will become another huge problem… now don’t get me wrong, their support is imperative – but it comes at a price… and the price is gonna be greater when dealing...
Blog Post by Clare Ross – INBA figure superstar It really is well and truly THAT time of year again and doesn’t time fly? Almost everyone I know in this industry has either just competed or is dieting hard as the competitions are in full flight. Such a wonderful time of year for so many and such an exciting time for anyone like me who are watching on the sidelines with a great deal of interest. After obsessively watching competitions for a very long time, along with getting onstage myself, I wanted to impart some of things that, once addressed, will have you up onstage relaxed and confident. All these tips do not require you to diet or do any cardio and will have you stepping onstage confidently ready to really enjoy that experience you have been working so hard for. 1. Posing, posing and posing. Whether you are a first time novice competitor or an Australian champion, posing is the number one asset you will want to take to the stage. Good posing hides your weak body parts whilst emphasising your best ones. It can make you look instantly better than your competitors if you know exactly what you are doing onstage and you do it with confidence. Practice posing in your heels and practice for long periods at a time. There are many times competitors have been required to stay on stage for a long time whilst the judges are making their decisions. Become stage fit enough to smile your way through the poses, looking relaxed and happy to be up there. 2. Your bikini is a big...
Blog Post by IFBB Pro Ellena Reidie. My name is Ellena and I’m a food addict Ok so I was addicted to food.. Now, well… My relationship with food is quite like a roller coaster. Most days I enjoy my meals, other days I hate trying to fit all of them in…But in saying that I also don’t waste my time obsessing about food. I was always a lover for food; I was a great eater and rarely craved sweets. Often I would have steak and fettuccini carbonara for breakfast and snack on tuna salads and sandwiched throughout the day. After I began my first comp prep is when it all started to spiral out of control. From never eating chicken to having boiled chicken 5 times a day and being on a strict regime, something happened mentally and I believe hormonally. I started to crave things I never normally would have. I remember only a few weeks after starting comp prep I binged on a whole packet of Tim tams. This continued… Not binging but craving and after the show was over I gave into what my body ‘wanted’. After a few weeks of giving into your body you tend to get over it and want to eat clean again, but then the vicious cycle begins all over again. Food was my ultimate distraction; it prevented me from going out for dinner, or drinks to anything social. Why? Because I was afraid I would give into these cravings. I would dream about food, read recipes and flick through cook books constantly. I Hid nuts in the car for when I was starving and purchased an...
