Blog Post by IFBB Pro Kahla Bullemor. Website: www.kahlabullemor.net THE FRUSTRATIONS OF INJURIES AND SEARCHING FOR THE POSTIVES I will speak from my own experience however I am sure that many athletes and people who enjoy and live a health and fitness lifestyle, will share my feelings and thoughts. The hardest mental challenge I find to deal with during my body building career is overcoming training setbacks due to injuries. In 2004 I had surgery to my left ankle and then in January 2008 I had a shoulder reconstruction to my right shoulder and then in May that same year, I had my left shoulder reconstructed. Training and body building is in my blood, not only do I love the feeling of training and of course the benefits which result, all aspects involved with this sport is who I am. When this is taken away from me and not by choice due to an injury, I find myself quite lost with who I am and in which direction I’m heading. All athletes who push the envelope are well aware of the risks involved, however this is what sets athletes apart from the rest. The year 2010 ended with Tony Doherty advising me that I had been granted my IFBB Pro Card, which was a feat I never thought possible. To top off a great year end, I spent a nice relaxing Christmas with my family in North Queensland and my sister surprised us with a visit home from Spain. With all the crazy weather, floods and cyclonic conditions I was very lucky to escape the floods at Christmas. Christmas included a great week of knee boarding, jet skiing, training at Kix Fitness Gym, Bowen and time with my beautiful family. I returned home to Brisbane after Christmas to commence my first week of work, unfortunately the tsunami through Toowoomba caused us to evacuate our work and return home to prepare for the onslaught of floods. I was extremely fortunate again to come away from the floods unscathed and only affected by intermittent power and internet loss for a few days. My work colleagues, friends and family were all safe although many lives and families suffered significantly losing lives, homes and all possessions. The floods and affects was deemed a major natural disaster, although to be able to take a positive aspect from this crisis, it was overwhelming to see people coming together to help wherever possible to the point where there were so many volunteers, they had to...
