Blog Post by Sam Attrill: INBA Figure Champion When I first came into the world of bodybuilding and competing, I was very naive to many aspects of the sport. I guess this was due to lack of knowledge. I relied on others to help, support and direct me to where I was supposed to go. The person who made a massive impact on me was my trainer. He is at the top of his game and over the many years he has been training, produced many world champions. He is a very giving man that loves to see his clients train hard and achieve their goals. He has mentored me through my five years of training and competing. He pushes me harder than I ever thought I was capable of, and the whole time, encourages me with support and praise. I was also very fortunate to have also been taken under the wing of Christine Hajjar. She showed me how to bring elegance and grace to the stage. She was my rock when I first started competing and she had an enormous amount of knowledge that she shared with me. She knew how to bring the best out in me. I will be forever grateful for everything that I learnt from her and her support was always there when I needed it. When I first started competing it was about doing so for me. It was about my personal journey and growth. I like to think that not only have I grown physically but mentally as well. I have become a better person for experiencing both highs and lows. So now I am in a position to be able to pay it forward and start giving back to the sport...
Blog Post by INBA WA President and Figure superstar – Sam Attrill I live a pretty routine life, not much changes from day to day. I basically live at the gym so I am always surrounded by people with the same passion as me. I shop at the same places, go to the same petrol station, park in the same car park to pick up the kids every day. So it’s is basically ground hog day every day for me. I am sure many can relate to that too! So here I am in Phuket and it’s time for my blog. I was not so sure what to write about so I have decided to share with you my observations since being here. The most important thing I have become aware of is I am abnormal! Most of my friends right now would probably be saying, um yeah, you are!! But those aside, I really had no idea! I get stared at as if I am a little green person from out of space!! When did this happen? Have I been that caught up in my own life and bubble that I have not seen it? Has it taken me to get out of my comfort zone to realise? Where did everything go so wrong? Yes, I am a girl, I am healthy, fit and have muscles!! I surround myself everyday in life and on Facebook, with likeminded motivational healthy fit girls that live a healthy lifestyle who are constantly trying to better themselves, so to me I took that as being normal! I now know that could be further from the truth and we are now among the minority of women. The more I took notice of what was going on around me the more I noticed it wasn’t just...
Blog Post by Sam Attrill – Multiple INBA, NABBA and IFBB Figure Champion What a year this has been!!! 2011 was not a highlight year for me and one that I will quite easily put in the memory bank and leave there. So, at the end of the year, I made a promise to myself that no matter what happens in 2012 I was going to make it a year to remember, not forget! And what a year it has been!!! So many good things have happened in my life that I really don’t want this year to end! The year started off with me being announced as the new president of the INBA WA. This was both daunting and exciting. I had no idea what I was required to do but I did know what I wanted to achieve. I just rolled with my gut instinct and some very helpful information from both Wayne McDonald and Jason Woodforth. I wanted to give competitors that entered my show, things that I would like when I compete so that was the starting point. With many months of organising, I promoted my first show. Looking back, it was good and I was happy with what I had achieved BUT I knew I could do better. My next show was the State Titles and with one show under my belt, I had a very good insight to what was needed. This show was a complete sellout, the competitors were all extremely happy and well looked after and it was being talked about as one of the best bodybuilding shows that WA has seen in a very long time. After only two shows, I had got it right! I was extremely humbled by the positive feedback I was getting...
Blog Post by Sam Attrill – INBA WA Promoter and Multi-Federation Figure Champion. With competition season just around the corner, I thought I would let you know about the three federations that I have competed with over the years to give you a little insight into each to help you when considering which federation you may want to be compete with this year! IFBB – International Federation of Body Building I spent a few years competing with the IFBB which included the Australasians in Sydney and FitX in Melbourne! I thoroughly enjoyed the FitX competition, as the stage was set up at the expo and gave it an amazing atmosphere and allowed me to have a look around at all the stalls after the competition. This was the first time I came across Activewear Online, who had a huge stall with so many fantastic clothes on display. This is also where you can compete to earn yourself a PRO card! If you are looking at competing with the IFBB, you have probably heard that they like the softer look combined with great symmetry. Although this might be the case, many have made the mistake of thinking soft means carrying more body fat and do get confused by this. What they really want is you looking lean but full muscled. This of course, does not come from carrying more body fat but getting lean and then manipulating your last week of prep to accommodate that full look. This year, they have bought a new division in which will allow those more bigger girls that have become...
